RESUMO

Background: Cardiovascular disease is the most often occurring disease in India accounting for 24.8% of deaths. Myocardial infarction contributes to this. A higher risk of cardiovascular disease exists due to comorbidities or the unawareness of existing illness among the Indian population. There is a shortage of published research on cardiovascular disease and a lack of standard cardiac rehabilitation programmes in India. Aim: Our study aims to develop a Nurse-led lifestyle modification follow-up programme, to assess and compare the effectiveness of the programme on health outcomes and quality of life among post-myocardial infarction patients. Methods: A two arm, single-blinded, randomised feasibility trial was conducted by developing a Nurse-led lifestyle modification follow-up programme. The interventional programme was based on the information-motivation-behavioural skill model and included health education, an educational booklet, and telephone follow-up. For feasibility testing of intervention, 12 patients were randomly allocated (n = 6/group). Patients in the control group were provided with routine care, while the intervention group was given routine care along with a Nurse-led lifestyle modification follow-up programme. Results: It was possible to use this tool. In addition to determining the tool's feasibility for use we found that the intervention group showed a significant improvement in systolic blood pressure (BP) (p = 0.001), diastolic BP (p = 0.016), Body Mass Index (BMI) (p = 0.004), and quality of life in all the subscales - physical, emotional and social (p < 0.001) after 12 weeks of discharge. Conclusion: Findings from this study will help to reinforce designing a cost-effective care delivery system in the care of post-myocardial infarction patients. This programme is a novel approach to improve preventive, curative and rehabilitative services for the post-myocardial infarction patients in India.

Background: The world is facing unprecedented challenges in the face of a global pandemic (COVID-19). The institutions resumed nursing students' clinical experiences as an earlier part of their curriculum, which was transitioned to a virtually delivered format due to global disaster. Therefore, working through this pandemic in hospital posting is challenging and fearful for nursing students. The aim of this study was to measure the fear of COVID-19 and the challenges faced by nursing students when posted in hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A web-based exploratory survey was conducted on 185 participants from March 2021 to April 2021. Participants were selected through a web-based survey (Google form) by non-probability purposive sampling technique. The Fear of COVID-19 Scale and self-structured questionnaires with the Likert-type scale were used to measure the fear of COVID-19 and the challenges faced by nursing students when posted in hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic, respectively. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for the analysis of data with IBM SPSS version 27. Results: A significant number (61.1%) of participants had moderate fear of COVID-19 infection, one-third of them (28.1%) had mild fear, and very few participants (10.8%) had an extreme fear of COVID-19 infection. The majority of participants (64.9%) faced moderate challenges, 27% faced high challenges, and very few study participants (8.1%) did not face any challenges when posted in the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. The fear due to COVID-19 is not associated with demographic variables, but the challenges faced due to COVID-19 are significantly associated with demographic variables, such as the age, batch, and duration of clinical posting (p-value = 0.01). Conclusion: Study data indicated that respondents reported fear of COVID-19 infection and also experienced a variety of challenges in hospital posting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious global health threat and it has numerous impacts on human life. India faced the problem of the second wave of COVID-19 and an unexpected new predicament in the form of mucormycosis has been added. The use of steroids drugs for long duration and comorbidity with COVID-19 infections are the risk factors of mucormycosis. It is important to understand the postoperative clinical pathway to assess and determine the policy and protocol, which help patients fasten their recovery, prevent further complications and readmission. METHODS: A cross-sectional descriptive design was used to conduct the study. We adopted the validated Immediate Post-Operative Recovery Assessment (IPR-PA) Scale to assess the postoperative clinical nursing care pathway for patients with mucormycosis. RESULTS: The current study shows that patients had highest score in the physiology clinical recovery domain (75.25%) and the lowest post-operative clinical recovery score in psycho-social domain (20.83%). There was a significant positive correlation was found between all the domains. The medication status domains found significantly associated with participants' age (P=.021) and physiological domains has shown significant association with received oxygen therapy during hospitalization (P=.046). CONCLUSION: Postoperative clinical nursing care pathway was effective to determine the progress of a patient. It helps us to know the parameter of different domains namely being physiological, physical, psycho-social and medication status. Patients required psycho-social support due to the epidemic and fear from disease.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The nationwide coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and ensuing lockdown has enforced institutions crosswise India to provisionally close to inhibit the spread of the virus and started online learning for students. To measure the level of satisfaction of nursing students with online learning and to identify the barriers which restrict to online learning. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The current study adopted quantitative research approach with an online survey research design and carried out during May-June 2020. Participants were selected through a web-based survey (Google form), in which 219 students enrolled. Self-structured questionnaire with the Likert scale was used to measure the level of satisfaction of nursing students with online learning and identify the barriers which restrict online learning. The descriptive and inferential statistics were used for the analysis in which 219 participants were enrolled in the study of data with IBM SPSS version 20. RESULTS: Majority of student's participants 148 (67.57%) were extremely satisfied with online learning. The findings suggest that the highest barriers which restrict to online learning among nursing students is low voice and language clarity (2.16 ± 0.593), physical health barriers such as eye strain (2.43 ± 0.613), reliability and connectivity problem (2.26 ± 0.534). Among all demographic data, age is significantly associated with the level of satisfaction of online learning. CONCLUSIONS: The study data indicated that maximum students were extremely satisfied the with online learning and among barriers which effect online learning is low voice and language clarity, reliability and connectivity problem, physical health barriers such as eye strain.
